Can’t Control Guns? California Says Limit Ammo Instead

While 3D printed guns are getting a great deal of national press due to the outrage of the alt-left, California has decided to come up with a new tactic in gun control — limiting the availability of ammunition.

It’s not enough that the farthest-left part of the country is attempting to control every sale of guns, they are now reducing the ability of Americans to access the ammo that’s needed for the guns that they have legally obtained. In their mind, limiting access to the ammunition will limit gun violence by default. It remains to be seen whether these strong-arm tactics will simply cause a mass exodus from the state or if it will be successful.

Gun-rights advocates are increasingly nervous that Proposition 63, which would take effect in July 2019, requires background checks on every ammunition buyer. Similar regulations have already been brought legally to Sacramento, where they are plaguing retailers and buyers with the intensive scrutiny required to purchase ammunition. Retailers are expected to obtain thumbprints as well as government-issued IDs before making a purchase, something that isn’t likely to make the buying public very happy with them. While retailers are stuck in the middle, extremist California lawmakers continue to look for ways to limit the rights of Americans throughout the massive state.

At least for now, 3D printed guns are legal — meaning it’s as easy as purchasing a download as an expensive 3D printing machine to DIY a weapon. What lawmakers don’t seem to take into account is that 3D guns are still quite rudimentary, quickly disintegrating with very little usage. It will likely be years before the technology is advanced enough to print a workable gun at home that can compete with conventional weapons on the market. Legislators call these weapons “ghost guns”, because they are not able to be tracked by traditional methods as they don’t travel through the standard retail market to arrive at their eventual owners. While there are blueprints available for 3D-printed ammunition, this tech is even further behind the weapon itself unless you are using a multi-million dollar apparatus that utilizes laser-fusion technology.

Already one of the most regulated states in the country, California lawmakers have outdone themselves in terms of reducing the Second Amendment rights of their population. From limits on internet sales, complete bans on magazines over a certain capacity and additional taxation on bullets to limitations that are placed on sellers and intrusive requirements for buyers — the state has attempted to curb access to weapons of all types.

Unfortunately for Californians, these expensive measures are unlikely to add to their safety. The ever-deepening regulations are doing little to curb violence in the state, but they are making it more difficult for law-abiding Americans to purchase the guns and ammunition that they need to stay safe.
